Sorbus rupicola, known as Rock Whitebeam, is a rare shrub or small tree best known from the British Isles but also reported from Norway, Sweden and Russia.[1] It prefers basic soil near edges of forests or other shrubs. If growing to full trees, S. rupicola can reach heights of 3—5 m. The species reproduces apomictically and was presumably created by autopolyploidysation of the common Whitebeam proper (Sorbus aria s.str.). It contains a tetraploidal set of chromosomes (2n=4x=68).

Sorbus rupicola, is rather similar to Sorbus aria, but the lower third of the leaf has no teeth and the leaf is also rather longer and narrower.[2]
